A great chair or chairs is/are the backbone of your living space. A grave mistake we make is underestimating the importance of the perfect chair. When we really shouldn’t! We spend the majority of our day sitting on chairs, whether we’re working in our home office, enjoying a meal, or simply sitting and reading a book for leisure! Hence, this piece of furniture needs to be not only comfortable but ergonomic and aesthetic as well. The right chair is a boon to your back, helping you maintain a healthy posture, while also managing to perfectly complement the interiors of your home. And we may have found a pretty cool one for you – the Tila Chair.

Designed by Shepherd Studio, the Tila Chair is truly a unique piece! Made up of hundreds of shiny spheres, the fascinating chair is intended to be an exploration of density. The unique-looking chair is partially inspired by the traditional game of marbles (also called Tila), and truly the chair is built using 210 stainless steel spheres that are supported by a tubular frame. The metallic spheres feature an intriguing chrome finish that reflects the chair’s surroundings, producing a visually pleasing and interesting interplay of light and shadow, that will capture the attention of any onlooker. “We were curious to explore the possibility of having a chair that people can look through,” said Shepherd Studio. “A chair which would have openings for shadows and light to seep through, whilst also reflecting its surroundings.”  The studio said that they wanted to personify density as a mediator for possibility, and quite rightly the chair’s innovative design captures and encompasses the meaning of creativity and imagination.

The Tila Chair was commissioned by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) and displayed at the Expo Dubai’s Bahrain Pavilion. The chair is made to order, and the stunning spheres are hand-finished by the studio. It weighs 13kgs and measures 88 cm in height and 50 cm in width.  If you’re someone with an eclectic taste who loves adding bold and conversation-sparking furniture pieces to their home, then the Tila Chair is the perfect addition to your home.
