Oshkosh Wheel & Sprocket to close, move inventory, staff to Appleton

OSHKOSH – A bike shop will be closing its Oshkosh location and consolidating operations in the Fox Valley.

Wheel & Sprocket said in a news release Aug. 31 its inventory and employees from the Oshkosh location will move to the Appleton location with the last day of business in Oshkosh being Sept. 8. Sprocket Gear Types

The news release said Wheel & Sprocket opened its first store in the Fox Valley in 1999 and added the second location in Appleton in 2001.

Since then, Wheel & Sprocket has opened shops in other markets, including Chicagoland and Madison.

As the bike industry has experienced a boom as a result of the pandemic, the aftermath and downturn in business necessitates a careful review of each location and each market, Wheel & Sprocket said in its news release.

“It’s bittersweet,” said Noel Kegel, president of Wheel & Sprocket, in the release. “We greatly appreciate the relationships that we have built over the last 24 years with the Oshkosh bike community. We are hopeful that our loyal customers will travel north to see us in Appleton, where we offer a full range of bikes and service for all ambitions and abilities of folks who ride bikes.”

The Oshkosh shop is at 1451 S. Washburn St. and the Appleton store is at 3939 W. College Ave. People can call the Oshkosh shop at 920-232-0900 and the Appleton store at 920-997-9300.
