New lollipop wrapper prolongs shelf life in hot climates

Regular double-twist wrappers never fully protect the lollipop, allowing moisture to reach the sugar, Mark van Harwegen den Breems sales manager at CFS Aquarius told ConfectioneryNews.com.

However, the new patented CFS Aquarius OverlapSeal consists of a sealing on the long side of the film to protect against possible contamination, he said.

The seal is represented in red on the image on the right.

Van Harwegen said he thought there would be particular demand for the wrapper in the Middle East, South America, South Africa and South Asia.

The wrapper also consists of a ‘easy open’ tear slit on the side of the packaging, a feature which has been used elsewhere in the food industry but has that has not yet been used for ball or 3D shaped lollipops, he said.

Traditional lollipop wrappers have a tear slip at the top, which is difficult to open, he said.

In addition, compared to a regular bunch wrapper, the double-twist uses up to 30 per cent less film, claims CFS.

Wrapping options include heat-sealable polypropylene, laminate and cellophane films and wax paper, all in single or double layers.

The new wrapper is available as an option on the TwistWrapper CFS’s continuous wrapping machine that handles lollipop diameters from 18 to 35mm and accommodates film reels up to 440mm diameter.

The machine has a double twist wrapping capacity of up to 1,000 ball lollipops per minute.

In the execution with OverlapSeal the maximum output is 600 lollipops per minute. The maximum lollipop diameter is 30mm.
