Waco, TX (FOX 44) — One woman in Waco received a random act of kindness that has changed her whole life in just one week.
Her name is Ida Pesina, she’s been paralyzed for three years and has been having problems with her wheelchair.
For the last two and a half years she has had to manage her own pain.
She fell three years ago while taking the trash out on a snowy day.
What started off as a broken tailbone is now a stage four ulcer.
“I get rushed in for emergency back surgery, and I walk in, and I don’t walk back out,” said Pesina.
Ida initially received a good electric wheelchair, but ran into trouble when it needed maintenance.
“The man comes and he starts yelling at me, saying, ‘What are you doing with this? It’s a prototype. You’re not supposed to have this. Who did this? Who? Who gave you this?,’ so I’m okay. He goes, ‘I’m going to take it, fix it, bring it back;’ he never brought it back,” said Ida.
She got a broken electric wheelchair as a replacement.
Once the wheels stopped turning, Ida lost her independence moving to a manual wheelchair.
“I can’t with the manual, they had to push me. You can’t just lift me…not everybody, because I’m paralyzed,” said Ida.
Ida couldn’t anything for three months without help.
Her son Matthew Rios moved to be one street over to help, and says its been a challenge.
“Pick her up, transfer her, help her with showering, taking showers, help with the bandage,” said Matthew.
Matthew also takes care of his family of eight, so he shared a facebook post last week asking anyone for help.
“I was surprised because so many people in the community got together to try and make something happen and I really appreciate it. We appreciate it,” said Matthew.
One woman donated the electric wheelchair but wanted to remain anonymous saying it was all God.
Now back and moving Ida says this act of kindness is more than the ability for mobility.
“She brought back my strength and she gave me life again. I started feeling like I didn’t have no independence, losing hope, getting depressed and I’m getting back to ‘hey, its ok,'” said Ida.
