CES 2024: LG launches new All-in-One washer-dryer combo unit - Reviewed

This year at CES, all-in-one washer-dryer combo units seem to be in vogue. These machines both wash and dry in the same unit, which means a more streamlined laundry day and no more swapping loads of soaking-wet laundry from one machine to another. They can also save on floor space and let you downsize from a laundry room to a laundry closet.

The only real downside to a washer-dryer combo unit is that you can't run a wash and dry cycle simultaneously, so it can take a bit longer to get through multiple loads.

We've also seen concerns regarding performance, with the rationale that by trying to be both a washer and a dryer, these combo units may fail to excel at either.

So far we've tested two units, the GE Profile PFQ97HSPVDS and the Electrolux ELTE7600AT (full review to come), and both of those are ranking in our top 10 as washers and top 20 as dryers.

While we don't want to draw any firm conclusions from just two data points, so far it seems there's nothing inherently limiting about washer-dryer combos—which is why we're excited to see more of the latest technology.

The WM6998HBA's heat pump drying system doesn't need a ventilation hookup, so you have more options for where you can set it up.

LG has just announced a new front-load washer/dryer combo unit they'll be showing off at CES 2024, the WashCombo All-in-One WM6998HBA.

The WM6998HBA features a 5-cubic-foot drum, which is sure to be a boon for anyone trying to get through a large load of laundry.

This washer-dryer combo uses a heat pump instead of a vent, which is important for those who want to set up a laundry closet, or who live in apartments that lack ventilation infrastructure. The inverter heat pump technology also helps reduce the energy consumption of the machine when compared to a traditional dryer.

This machine also comes with smart features, courtesy of SmartThinQ and some new AI tools. Using its built-in sensors, the WM6998HBA will be able to detect fabric texture, soilage, and load size. It can then best optimize for those settings, including the correct dose of detergent thanks to its ezDispense automatic dispenser.

Like many modern LG washers, the WM6998HBA also features an Allergiene wash cycle that leverages steam to rid your garments of most common allergens.

As the icing on the cake, this unit's direct drive motor is backed by a 10-year warranty, which is one of the best in the industry.

The WM6998HBA is also compatible with LG's large array of pedestals, including ADA-compliant risers, storage compartments, and even a miniature auxiliary washing machine.

The WashCombo is already available to purchase on the LG website, retailing for a discounted price of $1,999.

This combination washer-dryer unit features smart technology to make laundry a breeze.
