Berrien County water park temporarily closes due to issue with ventilation system. | WSBT

WSBT 22 now knows that problems with a ventilation system could be to blame .

Now, Surfari Joes Indoor wilderness water park is closed and repairs are underway.

The investigation is still ongoing, but the hotel's liaison told WSBT, a former employee may have cut wires affecting the chlorine filters after they believe they were let go unfairly.

Berrien County Interim Sheriff Chuck Heit tells us that at this point, no one has been taken into custody.

The fire department ran air quality checks after the park was voluntarily evacuated.

Hotel employees said, they expect the water park to remain closed for approximately one week.

Darrel Jackson, the Hotel Owner Liaison, says the owners main concern is public safety.

"The heath department came in and agreed with the hotel, we voluntarily agreed to shut it down for a new inspection and to have the circulatory system for the HVAC repaired and rebuilt so that’s where we’re at this point." said Darrel Jackson, the Hotel Owner Liaison."
